The ERR_PROXY_CONNECTION_FAILED error commonly occurs when your browser is unable to establish a connection through a proxy server you’ve configured or that has been configured by your network. This error is most often caused by incorrect proxy settings, which might include an incorrect address or port for the proxy server.

Other causes for this issue include network connectivity problems, a corrupted browser cache or cookies, or interference from firewall or security software. It’s crucial for users to ensure their internet connection is stable and that the proxy settings are correctly configured.

Users should also consider clearing their browser cache and cookies, disabling any interfering firewall or security software temporarily, and checking for any incorrect proxy settings as initial steps towards resolving this error.

In this guide, we will show you several methods you can use to resolve the ERR_PROXY_CONNECTION_FAILED error code with relative ease.

1. Disable Automatic Proxy Detection

The first thing you should do is disable the automatic detection of proxy settings in Windows. This prevents unintended changes to the proxy settings on your PC in case you have configured any.

  1. Open the Settings app by pressing the Win key + I.
  2. Navigate to the Network and Internet > Proxy menu.
    Navigating to Proxy Settings
    Navigating to Proxy Settings
  3. Turn off the Automatically detect settings option using the toggle.
    Disabling Automatic Proxy Detection
    Disabling Automatic Proxy Detection
  4. Check to see if this resolves the issue.

2. Reset DNS Cache

An inconsistency in the DNS cache can also cause your computer’s proxy server to stop working, usually when your PC can’t reach the proxy server because the DNS server is unable to resolve the request.

Resetting the DNS cache may help to isolate the issue.

  1. Open the Start Menu and search for Command Prompt. Click Run as administrator.
    Opening Command Prompt as Admin
    Opening Command Prompt as Admin
  2. In the command prompt window, type ipconfig /flushdns and press Enter.
    Flushing DNS Cache
    Flushing DNS Cache
  3. Check to see if the error code persists.

3. Disable Third-Party Extensions

Third-party extensions added to your web browser can trigger the ERR_PROXY_CONNECTION_FAILED error code, especially when using a VPN-like extension.

These services change your browser’s proxy settings to enable their use. To solve this problem, try disabling the third-party extension.

You can verify if the problem persists without third-party extensions by opening an incognito or private window in your browser, as extensions are usually disabled in this mode. If the problem is resolved, find the problematic extension with these steps:

  1. Click the More menu in the top-right corner of your browser.
  2. Select Settings from the dropdown menu.
    Opening Chrome Settings
    Opening Chrome Settings
  3. Use the search bar to search for proxy.
    Searching for Proxy in Chrome
    Searching for Proxy in Chrome
  4. If an extension has modified the proxy settings, you’ll receive a message.
  5. Click Disable or remove the third-party extension by selecting Manage.
  6. Afterwards, confirm if the issue has been resolved.

4. Reset TCP/IP Stack

The Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) and Internet Protocol (IP) are essential for communicating with other devices on the internet. A damaged TCP/IP stack in Windows could lead to the ERR_PROXY_CONNECTION_FAILED error code.

Resetting the TCP/IP stack may correct this issue.

  1. Search for Command Prompt in the Start Menu.
  2. Select Run as administrator.
    Opening Command Prompt as Admin
    Opening Command Prompt as Admin
  3. Type the following commands one at a time in the command prompt window:
netsh winsock reset netsh int tcp reset
    Resetting TCP/IP
    Resetting TCP/IP
  4. Restart your computer thereafter.
  5. See if the error code persists.

5. Remove Proxy Settings

If you encounter the ERR_PROXY_CONNECTION_FAILED error without intentionally adding a proxy server to your PC, it’s possible that a third-party app has injected proxy settings. Alternatively, if the proxy server you use is experiencing an outage, removing the proxy settings may resolve the issue.

Below are two methods for removing a proxy server from your PC. Be aware that not all proxy settings may be reflected in the Settings app, requiring you to use the Windows Registry.

5.1. Using the Settings App

  1. Press the Windows key + I to open the Settings app.
  2. Go to Network and Internet > Proxy.
    Navigating to Proxy Settings
    Navigating to Proxy Settings
  3. Click Edit next to the Use setup script.
    Editing Proxy Script Settings
    Editing Proxy Script Settings
  4. Turn off the script using the toggle.
  5. Click Edit next to Use a proxy server.
    Editing Manual Proxy Settings
    Editing Manual Proxy Settings
  6. Toggle it off as well.
  7. If the Set up option is displayed instead, it indicates no proxy server has been configured via the Settings app.

5.2. Using the Windows Registry

  1. Press Win key + R to open the Run box.
  2. Type regedit and press Enter to launch the Registry Editor.
    Opening Registry Editor
    Opening Registry Editor
  3. Navigate to the following path in the Registry:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings
    Navigating to Internet Settings Path
    Navigating to Internet Settings Path
  4. Double-click on the ProxySettingsPerUser key in the right pane. Change its value to 1.
    ProxySettingsPerUser Registry Key
    ProxySettingsPerUser Registry Key
  5. If the key is not present, create a new DWORD (32-bit) Value named ProxySettingsPerUser, and set its value to 1.

6. Reset Browser Settings

If none of the above methods fix the error code, consider resetting your browser. At this point, a browser configuration inconsistency is likely causing the issue, and a reset should address this.

  1. Open the More menu in the top right corner and go to Settings.
    Opening Chrome Settings
    Opening Chrome Settings
  2. In the search bar, type Reset Settings.
    Resetting Chrome Settings
    Resetting Chrome Settings
  3. Click on the option that appears to reset your browser settings.
  4. After this, the problem should no longer occur.

When using the Firefox browser, users may sometimes experience an issue where their tabs keep crashing, displaying the message ‘Gah. Your tab just crashed.’ This can be frustrating and interfere with a seamless internet browsing experience. Factors that may contribute to this problem include having an excessive number of tabs open at once, malfunctioning or incompatible browser extensions, an outdated browser version, unstable update releases, and problems related to the multi-process feature.

This article explores various solutions to resolve the issue and facilitate smooth browsing.

1. Open Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode

Malfunctioning or corrupted add-ons may cause the issue. To diagnose this, open Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode, which will temporarily disable all add-ons.

  1. Launch Firefox and click on the Hamburger Menu on the top right, then select Help.
  2. Choose Troubleshoot Mode.
  3. Press the Restart button.
  4. Select Open in the Open Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode dialog.

If the issue no longer occurs in Troubleshoot Mode, then relaunch Firefox in normal mode and disable each add-on or extension individually to identify the problematic one and remove it.

An outdated version of Firefox might cause tab crashes. Check for browser updates and install the latest version if available.

  1. Open Firefox, click on the Hamburger icon, and select Help.
  2. Click on About Firefox.
  3. If the window indicates Firefox is up to date underneath the Firefox title, then your browser is current. If not, it will show ‘Update to *** version.’
  4. Click on ‘Update to *** version.’
  5. Upon download completion, select Restart to Update Firefox.
  6. After restarting, check if the tab crash issue still exists.

3. Disable Multi-process Tabs

The feature known as “Multi-process tabs” is designed to enhance user experience by isolating web content processes from Firefox interface processes. While it boosts security, performance, and reduces memory use, it may present issues.

Incompatibilities with some add-ons, or older computers struggling with the demands of the feature can lead to crashes. Try disabling this feature to see if it resolves the problem.

  1. In Firefox, type
    about:config

into the search bar and press Enter.

  2. Click Show All.
  3. Search for the following and set their values to false:
    browser.tabs.remote.autostart

    browser.tabs.remote.autostart.2

  4. Restart the browser and check if the issue is resolved.

4. Check for Hardware Acceleration

Hardware acceleration uses the graphics card to load websites, but outdated or incompatible graphics drivers can cause issues. Disable hardware acceleration in the browser settings to potentially fix the problem.

  1. Visit the Mozilla Firefox release index page and select a prior version.
  2. Choose the version that suits your operating system (e.g., win32 or win64 for Windows) and language (e.g., en-US for English).
  3. Click the link for the Firefox setup executable to initiate the download.
  4. Install Firefox, then verify if the tab crashing issue has been resolved.

6. Disable Antivirus Software

At times, antivirus software can conflict with Firefox, resulting in tab crashes. You can test this by temporarily disabling your antivirus software to see if it ameliorates the problem.

For instructions on deactivating your antivirus, please refer to our article on how to turn off antivirus.

7. Clear Firefox Cache and Cookies

An overloaded cache and browsing history can cause issues when opening new tabs, possibly resulting in crashes. Clearing your cache and cookies may fix the problem.

Note: This process will log you out of some websites.

  1. Open Firefox and click the hamburger menu on the top right.
  2. Click History, then Clear Recent History…
  3. Select the time range to clear, opting for Everything for a complete reset.
  4. Expand the Details list to choose what to clear, ensuring to select both Cookies and Cache.
  5. Hit the Clear Now button.

8. Update Graphics Drivers

Outdated graphics drivers can cause issues with advanced graphic features on websites, such as WebGL, potentially leading to tab crashes. Updating your graphics drivers may resolve this issue.

  1. Right-click the Windows Start button and select Device Manager.
  2. Expand the Display adapters section.
  3. Right-click on your graphics card and choose Update driver.
  4. Opt for Search automatically for updated driver software.
  5. Install any available updates by following the on-screen instructions.

9. Refresh Firefox

Refreshing Firefox restores the browser to its default settings while preserving bookmarks and passwords. If a particular setting or add-on is causing the issue, refreshing Firefox might resolve it.

  1. Type about:support in the Firefox address bar and hit Enter.
  2. Click the Refresh Firefox button.
  3. In the confirmation popup, select Refresh Firefox again.

10. Create a New Profile

Creating a new profile offers a fresh start, free from potentially corrupted add-ons or bookmarks that could cause crashes. Establish a new profile to check if it remedies the issue.

  1. Enter about:profiles in the address bar and press Enter.
  2. Click Create a New Profile and use the wizard to set up a new profile.
  3. Switch to the new profile and assess whether the tab crash issue has been resolved.

Let’s say you saw a link to an article on Facebook and decided to open it but Google Chrome hits you with the “Your Connection is Not Private” error. Now you are sitting there all scared thinking why is my connection not private? Am I about to get hacked?

But worry not, to save users from cyber attacks, browsers can stop you from loading into websites that don’t meet their security standards. While the issue can be downright frustrating, this article explores 11 ways to bypass the “Your Connection is Not Private” error to get your surfing experience back on track!

Secure websites protect your data

What is The Your Connection is Not Private Error

The “your connection is not private” error message pops up when your browser fails to authenticate a website’s SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) certificate. In other words, your browser warns you that the website is unsafe to proceed and your personal information can be at risk.

This warning message is a security feature implemented in browsers like Chrome to protect your data when surfing online. When you access a website, your browser runs a check on the server’s digital certificates to ensure that the site is up to security standards.

If the browser detects a problem with the certificates, it will automatically stop you from accessing the website. Ignoring this warning message means that your data isn’t encrypted properly and login and payment information can get into the hands of hackers.

How to Fix “Your Connection is Not Private” Error As a Visitor

While the “Your connection is not private” is there to protect you from harmful websites, it can sometimes be triggered by issues on maybe your end and not the site. This error can be traced back to two sides:

  1. Client-side errors mean that the issues lie in your system, internet, browser, etc.
  2. Server-side errors result from expired security certifications or other server-related issues.

If you are lucky, a simple refresh might get the website running for you. If not, you also have a few other extensive troubleshooting methods to work with.

1. Refresh The Page

One of the first things you should do when you come across the “your connection is not private” error is to give the page a quick refresh. Temporary issues such as server overload or a minor connectivity problem can be fixed by reloading the page.

Reload the page

2. Manually Proceed (Unsafe)

Your second option is to manually proceed with the website and ignore all the warnings. However, we don’t recommend this unless you are a frequent visitor to the website and are aware that it can’t steal your data. If that’s not the case, we highly advise against opening the website this way as all your data will be open to hackers.

Browsers often show this message for a good reason and advise you against visiting them as your personal and payment information can be compromised. If you still want to reach your desired website no matter what, here’s how you can manually proceed:

  1. Once you are on the Privacy error page, click on the Advanced option.
    Click on Advanced
  2. From here, your browser will state its reason for blocking the website. Right below it, you will have the option to proceed to the website. Click on it and the website will open for you.
Proceed to the website (BE CAREFUL)

3. Use Incognito Mode

If you don’t want to put your data at risk and want to fix the issue the right way, the next thing you can try is to use Incognito Mode. If the issue is from your side, then it should go away once you switch to Incognito as this mode doesn’t store browser extensions, history, cookies, or site data, which can interfere and stop you from accessing the website.

Here’s how to switch to the Incognito Mode:

  1. Open up the Chrome browser and click on three vertical dots in the top right corner.
    Click on the three dots
  2. From here, click on the New Incognito Mode option to open a private tab.
    Select Incognito Mode
  3. You should now have a private browsing window.

4. Set the Date and Time on Your Computer

While this might sound a bit strange, misconfigured date and time settings can also cause the “your connection is not private” error message. This is because browsers rely on your system’s time and date to verify a certificate’s issue and expiration date.

↪ Windows (remaining)

If you are using a Windows operating system, here’s a step-by-step guide to fix your date and time:

  1. Click on the time in the bottom right-hand on your taskbar and hit the “Date and time settings” option.
Click on Date and time settings
  2. Once you are in, you’ll need to turn on the “Set time automatically” and the “Set time zone automatically” option. This will update your time according to one of Microsoft’s NTP servers. If the time zone isn’t correct you can also manually choose the correct timezone.
Toggle on the automatic button for both options
  3. Double-check the time to make sure it’s correct and try re-opening the browser and the site.

5. Clear Browser Cache and Cookies

While browsing online, your browser stores Cache data and Cookies on your computer which can sometimes interfere with secure connections. Cache helps improve load times by storing important resources of frequently visited websites. Meanwhile, cookies are your preferences, history, and login credentials.

However, outdated cache files and cookies can contain outdated or incorrect data about the website you are trying to visit, triggering the “your connection is not private” error. To ensure your browser is loading a fresh copy of the page, you’ll need to clear your browser cache and cookies by following these steps:

  1. Open up Google Chrome and click on the three vertical dots.

    Click on the three dots
  2. From the drop-down menu, click on the “Clear Browsing data” option.
    Select clear browsing data
  3. This will directly take you to the pop-up box where you’ll need to check all three options. Finally, click on the Clear data button to remove the selected data. By doing this, you’ll be signed out of most websites, site data will be cleared, and all your browsing history will also be removed.
    Hit clear data

8. Use a Different Network

Public Wi-Fi networks such as those in Cafes or Airports are often not as secure as you think. These public Wi-Fi connections use the HTTP protocol instead of HTTPS which means that your data is being transferred without encryption.

Use a trusted VPN service

Instead, you can either switch to your Mobile Data or if that’s not possible you should add a layer of protection by using a VPN (Virtual Private Network). Using VPNs can encrypt your data, hide your IP address, and route traffic through different servers, making your device a difficult target for hackers. Even with a VPN, avoid entering sensitive information just to be safe.

HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol) transfers data over the web without encryption, while HTTPS (Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure) encrypts data for secure transmission. HTTPS is essential for protecting sensitive information and operates over port 443 by default, whereas HTTP operates over port 80 and is suitable for general web browsing.

10. Change DNS

If you’re still facing the same issue, another thing you can do is change your DNS servers. Sometimes, using Google’s Public DNS (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) or Cloudflare’s DNS (1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1) can cause the “your connection is not private” error. Switching back to your ISP’s DNS servers might help fix DNS errors, as Google and Cloudflare DNS services can have occasional issues.

Here’s how to change your DNS settings:

  1. Open up the Control Panel from the Windows search bar.
    Go to Control Panel
  2. From here, click on the Network and Internet option.
    Select Network and Internet
  3. Once you are in, click on the Network and Sharing Center.
Click on Network and Sharing Center
  4. Next, click on the “Change adapter settings” from the side menu.
    Change adapter settings
  5. Here, select the Network you want to configure DNS settings for and open properties by right-clicking on it.
    Select properties
  6. Under the Networking tab, scroll down and select “Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)” or “Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6).” Once selected, click on the Properties tab to open additional settings.
Select the protocol and hit properties
  7. In the properties tab, check the “Obtain an IP address automatically option.” If you are using Google’s Public DNS or Cloudflare’s DNS, you might have to also remove it from there.
    Select the first option

11. Clear the SSL State

If none of the above steps worked for you, one last thing left is to clear the SSL state on your computer. Clearing the SSL state is just like clearing your browser’s cache and can come in handy if things get out of sync. If you’re encountering problems with SSL certificates or secure connections in Chrome on a Windows system, clearing the SSL state might help. Here’s how you can do it:

  1. Head over to the Windows search bar and open up Internet Options.
    Go to Internet Options
  2. Next, click on the Content option for the list of tabs.
    Head to the Content tab
  3. Finally, click on the Clear SSL state option to clear the SSL states for all the websites you have visited. This means that you’ll have to re-enter login credentials wherever necessary.

How to Fix “Your Connection Is Not Private” as a Website Owner

As the primary cause of this error is an invalid SSL certificate, website owners must grasp how crucial they are for fixing the error from their side. Let’s have a quick look at SSL certificates and how important is to keep an eye on them.

↪ Understanding SSL Certificates

An SSL certificate acts like a virtual ID card for your website, ensuring its identity and enabling secure communication between computers. It’s like a secret code that keeps data safe as it travels between two machines over the internet. Behind the scenes, a trusted Certificate Authority issues valid SSL certificates to users, ensuring information accuracy and boosting trust in encryption.

SSL Certificates explained!

However, if your website is running on an expired or invalid SSL certificate, it can cause visitors to encounter errors like “Your connection is not private.” If that’s the case we recommend updating your SSL/TLS certificates by contacting your SSL or hosting provider. Additionally, make sure to implement HTTPS redirects on your website to direct all web traffic to a more secure protocol instead of HTTP.

Browsing the Internet Securely

Getting hit in the face with errors when browsing the Internet is no fun. On top of that having to fix them can be difficult but we hope one of the following methods will help you resolve the “your connection is not private” issue. Conversely, if you are a website owner, make sure that your SSL certificate is up to date and correctly installed to prevent users from listing your website as unsafe.

FAQs

What’s better SSL or TLS?

SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) and TLS (Transport Layer Security) are cryptographic protocols ensuring secure communication over networks. SSL, an older version, evolved into TLS due to security vulnerabilities. TLS offers enhanced security and performance compared to SSL, with versions including TLS 1.0, TLS 1.1, TLS 1.2, and TLS 1.3, widely used for safeguarding online data transmission.

How can I check my website’s SSL certificate authenticity and identify any issues?

Use Qualys’ free SSL Server Test by entering your website’s domain. It assesses SSL certificate authenticity and provides insights for potential problems. Aim for an A grade to ensure no issues.

Is there a simple method in Google Chrome to confirm if a website is secure?

In Google Chrome, you can easily check a website’s security status by looking for a padlock icon located to the left of the URL bar. If present, it indicates the website is secure.

Ever wondered why the top of your Safari browser sometimes matches the color of the website you’re visiting? That’s website tinting – a well-designed feature on Apple’s Safari browser.

This post is all about website tinting. We’ll explain what it is, its benefits, and how you can toggle this feature to suit your browsing style. Whether you’re into tech, love a bit of color in your digital life, or just curious about your Apple device’s features, this guide has something for everyone.

What is Safari website tinting?

What is Safari website tinting?

Apple released a new feature called website tinting with the launch of iOS 15, iPadOS 15, and macOS Monterey for the Safari browser. This cool feature changes the color at the top of your Safari screen to match the color of the website you’re visiting.

If you’re using an iPhone, the top part where you see your Wi-Fi signal and battery life will change colors to blend with the website’s theme. You’ll notice in pictures that with website tinting turned on, the top part matches the website’s color, and without it, it stays the original color.

NOTE: On the iPhone, if you’re using the browser in Single Tab mode, you won’t see the color change at the top until you start scrolling down.

The feature is similar for iPad and Mac users but only shows up when using the Compact tab layout. The whole point of website tinting is to make your browsing experience on Safari more enjoyable.

It does this by syncing the colors of the iPhone’s status bar and the Safari toolbar, navigation buttons, and address bar on the iPad and Mac with the website’s color scheme.

↪ Is website tinting helpful?

Is website tinting helpful?

Apple added the website tinting feature to Safari for a good reason. It’s designed to make surfing the web more engaging by making the colors of the website you’re visiting extend to the browser itself.

This can make your online time more immersive on whatever site you’re looking at. Whether you enjoy this feature or not depends on your personal taste.

If you’re not a fan of your browser changing colors to match every site you visit, you might not find website tinting very appealing. On the other hand, if you like the idea of a more colorful browsing experience, then website tinting could be something you’d want to enable and explore.

How to turn website tinting on and off?

Turning website tinting on or off is up to you and how you like to browse the web. If you’re curious to see what it’s like, here’s how you can easily give it a try:

1. Turn on the website tinting option on iOS devices

Follow these easy steps to turn on the website tinting feature in your Safari browser on iOS 15:

  1. Open the “Settings” app on your iPhone or iPad.
    Open iPhone Settings
    Open iPhone Settings
  2. Keep scrolling until you find “Safari,” and then tap it to open.
    Tap on Safari
    Tap on Safari
  3. Look for the “Allow Website Tinting” option and switch the toggle on to enable this feature.
    Tap on Allow Website Tinting
    Tap on Allow Website Tinting

That’s it! With this feature enabled, you can explore the internet to see the changes and decide if you like the new look.

Before iOS 15, Apple had a setting called “Show Color in Tab Bar” under accessibility options, which did pretty much the same thing as the current “Allow Website Tinting” toggle.

This change indicates that Apple wants more people to know about and use this feature, likely because not everyone was aware of it or used it in the past.

2. Turn off the website tinting option on iOS devices

If you decide that website tinting isn’t for you, disabling is just as easy as enabling it. Here’s how to stop the website tinting feature:

  1. Start by opening the “Settings” app on your iPhone or iPad.
    Open the Settings app
    Open the Settings app
  2. Scroll until you find “Safari,” and then tap it to get into its settings.
    Tap on Safari
    Tap on Safari
  3. Look for the toggle labeled “Allow Website Tinting” and deactivate it.
    Tap on Allow Website Tinting
    Turn off the toggle

After you’ve done this, Safari will stop changing its colors to match the websites you visit, keeping its look consistent no matter what site you’re on. You don’t even need to restart your iPhone for the change to take effect.

3. Turn on or off the website tinting or tab bar coloring on the Mac

Enabling website tinting or tab bar coloring on your Mac is straightforward if you have the latest Safari update and are using macOS Big Sur, Catalina, or a newer version. Apple calls this feature “color in tab bar” on Mac computers. Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Open Safari on your Mac. Look for the “Safari” menu in the top-left corner of your screen and click on “Preferences” from the dropdown menu.
     click on "Preferences
    Click on Preferences
  2. In the Preferences window, click on the “Tabs” section.
    click on the "Tabs
    Click on Tabs
  3. Find the option “Show Color in Tab Bar” and check the box next to it. If the coloring feature is already on, uncheck this box to turn it off.
Click the box before Show Color in Tab Bar
Click the box before Show Color in Tab Bar

As soon as you check this box, you’ll notice the color of Safari’s tabs change to match the website you’re viewing. After that, you’re all set! You can just close the Preferences window and enjoy your colorful browsing experience.

Should you use it?

Website tinting in Safari offers a unique way to blend your browsing experience with the visual theme of the websites you visit. Whether you’re using an iPhone, iPad, or Mac, enabling this feature can make your web surfing more colorful and immersive.

If you’re someone who enjoys a cohesive look across your apps and websites, website tinting is definitely worth trying out. You might want to skip this feature if you prefer a consistent, unchanging browser interface. Try it, and see if it enhances your browsing experience on Safari.

FAQs

Is the website tinting like the show color in the tab bar feature?

Yes, “Show Color In Tab Bar” is just another name for website tinting. This feature was around for a while before it got spotlighted in Safari 15 last year. So, when we talk about showing color in the tab bar, we’re talking about website tinting.

Will enabling website tinting affect Safari’s performance?

No, enabling website tinting won’t slow down Safari or affect how fast pages load. It’s purely a visual feature that changes the look of your browser to match the website you’re visiting. You can enjoy a more personalized browsing experience without worrying about performance.

Can I control website tinting on my iPhone?

Yes, you can disable the website tinting feature in Safari if you don’t like it. And if you change your mind later, you can easily turn it back on. It’s all about what you prefer.

Is it available on any other internet browsers besides Safari?

No, this feature is unique to Safari, and Apple keeps updating it. People who use Safari also look forward to seeing it in upcoming versions. Right now, no other web browser offers something like website tinting.

Google reviews are crucial in shaping the public perception of your business for potential customers and clients on Google Search and Maps. Positive reviews can foster business growth and strengthen trust with your target audience, while negative or absent reviews may have a undesirable impact.
Google Review Not Showing Up

Some users of the Google Business Profile (formerly known as Google My Business) have encountered issues with their reviews not displaying.

For reviews to be visible on your business listing, they must comply with the community guidelines established by Google. Reviews that fail to adhere to these policies may be automatically flagged and removed for reasons such as spam, offensive content, or fraudulent activity. It’s also possible that you may unintentionally be violating Google’s privacy rules.

How Long Does It Take for Google Reviews to Appear?

Typically, reviews are published almost instantly or within a few hours. However, delays can occur, and it could take anywhere from 48 hours to seven business days for a review to appear. In some instances, a review may not show up at all. This could stem from issues with Google itself, your Google Business Profile, or the review’s content.

Reasons Behind Your Google Reviews Not Showing Up

Google maintains strict community guidelines to keep the platform secure for all users. For reviews to appear, they must pass Google’s review process, which includes AI algorithm checks and potentially a human review.

Delayed reviews are often a result of the time taken for human moderators to verify adherence to policies. If a review breaches these policies by containing spam or other inappropriate elements, it will be removed.

Google also purges fake and incentivized reviews, so their absence should not be unexpected. Reviews penned by employees or former employees are against Google’s policy and will not be displayed.

Should a review be excessively long, starkly different from others, or if a single account posts an excessive number of reviews in a short span, Google might flag this as suspicious and withhold approval.

If you face such challenges, here are some steps you can take.

1. Wait It Out

The delay may also be due to technical glitches or large-scale events, like those experienced during the pandemic. In such situations, patience is key. You may have to wait and see if the review eventually shows up. If Google determines a review contravenes its policies, it will not be made visible and you will not be notified.

2. Make Sure the Review Was Actually Left

After a reasonable wait, if the review is still not visible on your profile, ensure it was genuinely submitted by your client or customer. Clarify your problematic situation with them and request proof, such as a screenshot. This step can be essential both for your verification and for seeking help from Google later.

3. Editing the Review

Some users have found that editing the review can lead to its subsequent display. You can suggest your customer slightly alter their review, perhaps by removing and then re-adding a character, while maintaining the original content, before saving it.

Google does not accept reviews with links. If a client’s review isn’t appearing, they should edit it to eliminate any objectionable content and remove any links.

4. Verify Your Google Business Account

If you notice several reviews failing to show up, the issue might lie with your profile. Ensure that your Google Business account is verified and check for duplicate profiles. Even a minor name variation from another business might cause confusion. Also, make sure your profile is fully claimed, verified, and optimized as per Google’s suggestions.

5. Contact GBP Support

It’s important to note that Google does not reinstate reviews that have been intentionally removed for violating policies. However, if you believe that all guidelines have been observed, it is worth reaching out for assistance. Here is how to contact Google Business Profile Support:

  1. Navigate to the Google Business Profile Help page.
  2. In the Describe your issue field, enter “review not showing.”
  3. Scroll to the bottom and click on Contact us.
    Contact GBP Help
  4. Choose your business from the Which business do you need help with drop-down menu.
  5. Proceed by providing the required information and clicking on the Next step button.
  6. Click Submit to finalize your inquiry.

After contacting support, Google will respond with a standard email. Reply to this email, clearly stating your issue and providing any evidence of the review, if applicable. Remain courteous and professional in your communication.

How to Fix Google Keeps Signing me out on Chrome

Why Google Keeps Signing Me Out of All Websites on Chrome

Several reasons can contribute to Google repeatedly signing you out of all websites on Chrome:

  • Browser Cache Issues: Over time, the browser cache can accumulate a significant amount of data, which may become outdated or corrupted. This can interfere with how the browser manages sessions and logins, leading to frequent sign-outs.
  • Cookie Settings: Cookies are crucial for maintaining your login status on websites. If cookies are blocked or not properly stored, it can prevent Chrome from keeping you signed in.
  • Problems with Chrome Sync: Google Chrome Sync is designed to keep your data consistent across devices. If there’s an issue with Sync, like an interrupted connection or a glitch, it might affect your logged-in status.
  • Extension Interference: Some browser extensions can interfere with normal browser operations. Extensions that manage cookies, enhance privacy, or modify web traffic can unintentionally cause you to be signed out of your accounts.

Most of the web pages we visit are in English, but every now and then, one comes across a website that is in another language. In situations like these, the ability of web browsers to translate that page is of great importance.

In this guide, we will look at how Firefox can handle something like this, translating the web page to a language we understand.

How to translate web pages in Firefox?

Can You Translate a Web Page in Firefox?

Just like Chrome and Edge, Firefox on PC is perfectly capable of translating a web page. With Firefox version 118, you can now translate any website in real time. Since the translation happens locally, there’s no risk of a privacy breach, unlike other browsers that rely on cloud services.

However, it’s a different story on your phone. In the Firefox browser app, there is neither a native translation feature nor can you install an add-on for this purpose. However, there are a couple of workarounds, although they are not feasible at all. (More on this later.)

READ MORE: Fix: Firefox Addons not Working ➜

How to Translate a Webpage in Firefox on Desktop

In the latest version of Firefox, the ability to translate is built-in, and whenever you visit a page that is not in your preferred language, Firefox automatically detects it and gives you the option to translate. However, if you don’t see this pop-up, here’s what you can do:

  1. In Firefox, open the web page that you want to translate. Click on the three horizontal lines in the top-right corner.
Click on the three horizontal bars in the top-right corner
  2. This opens the application menu. Here, look for the option that says Translate page. Click on it.
Click on Translate page in the application menu
  3. Firefox will detect the language on the web page, and you can choose the language you want to translate this page to. Then, click on Translate.
Choose the language you want to translate to and click on Translate
  4. It takes a minute to complete. Your web page has now been translated successfully.
    Web page translated successfully
  5. If you want to reverse the changes, click on the translation icon on the right side of the address bar. Click on Show original.
Click on Show original to revert the changes

↪ Alternatives to the Native Translation Feature

If you’re not satisfied with the quality of the translation or if the Full-page Translation feature isn’t working smoothly, you can try using an add-on. There are many translation extensions available in the Firefox add-ons store.

We’ll use “To Google Translate” as an example:

  1. On your Firefox browser, open the Add-ons store.
    Open the Firefox Add-ons Store
  2. In the search bar, enter To Google Translate. (If you want to use any other extension, you can search for it instead.)
    Search for “To Google Translate”
  3. Click on the Add to Firefox button to add this extension to your Firefox browser.
    Add this extension to Firefox
  4. Once added, open the web page you want to translate. If you want to translate the whole page, right-click anywhere. From the options that appear, click on Translate this page.
    Click on Translate this page
  5. This action opens up a new tab, where the entire web page is translated by Google Translate.
A translated page opens up in a new tab
  6. However, if you need to translate only a specific portion of the page you’re visiting, all you need to do is highlight that portion and right-click on it to reveal a bunch of options. Select To Google Translate > Translate (auto/en).
Select text and right-click on it to translate it
  7. This opens up Google Translate in a new tab, where the selected text is translated to your preferred language automatically.
Selected text translated to chosen language

How to Translate in Firefox on Mobile?

Translation add-ons for Android are available; however, they do not work with the stable Firefox browser. After Firefox was relaunched in 2020, the support for a majority of add-ons was lost. Currently, only a handful of add-ons are supported. Firefox on the iPhone doesn’t support any add-ons at all.

If you want to use the translation add-ons, you have to install Firefox Beta on your Android. However, unlike the Firefox Fullpage Translation feature for desktop, these add-ons just open a new tab for you to manually translate text, which, in our opinion, is only a hassle.

If you really need to translate some content while using Firefox on phone, you can use Google Translate for this purpose. Here’s how:

  1. Go to the web page which you want to translate, and then copy the text you need translated.
Copy the text you want to translate
  2. Now, in a new tab, go to translate.google.com and paste the text you just copied.
Go to Google Translate and paste the text
  3. Google Translate automatically detects the language of this text and translates it to English. You can change the output language if you want.
    The text has been translated

What to Do if Firefox Translation Feature is Not Working?

There could be several reasons why the Firefox translations feature is not working for you. Here are some possible causes and their fixes:

  • Firefox Fullpage Translation feature was introduced in the version 118, so if your Firefox is outdated, this feature will not work for you.

  • You were messing with the configuration of Firefox and have disabled this feature. In this case,
Open about:config > Search “browser.translations.enable” > Change the value from false to true. Restart Firefox for the changes to take effect.

Click on the toggle to change value from false to true

Final Thoughts

Currently, the Firefox translation feature for PC only works on the text content of web pages. It doesn’t work with images or videos. If you really need the translation feature on a mobile browser and are disappointed with Firefox, try Google Chrome. It has a built-in ability, just like Firefox for PC, which runs smoothly.

FAQs

If a web page has more than one language, can Firefox translate all of them?

The Firefox Fullpage translation works well with one language only. If there are multiple languages on a page, it may not handle the translation properly.

How can I change the system language in Mozilla Firefox?

You can easily change the system language as well as the preferred language for web pages in Firefox. Open Firefox > Click on the three horizontal bars in the top right corner > Settings > Scroll down to locate Language > Change it to what you want.

FAQs

How do I know if a pop-up is blocked?

Pop-ups that are blocked usually prompt a notification or a symbol in the address bar of your browser. This indicator varies among different browsers but typically alerts you when a pop-up has been prevented.

Understandably, nothing can be more annoying than slow and unresponsive Google Chrome. Although this browser is a popular choice among users, it can also become greedy when it comes to consuming your computer’s resources. But before you decide to switch to a different browser, consider spending a little time eliminating the factors causing the issue.

Slow and Unresponsive Google Chrome

Reasons Behind A Slow and Unresponsive Google Chrome

while you may be thinking the issue has to do with some serious bug in your system, you should know that developers recently introduced a battery and resource-saving feature called Efficiency Mode. When this mode is enabled, your background tabs go to sleep after a certain period of inactivity. When you return to these tabs, Chrome reloads the pages again, often resulting in delayed or laggy performance.

If you’re having trouble boosting Chrome’s performance, you can try the following methods.

1. Ensure Chrome is Up-to-date

Updating Chrome to the latest version ensures it is free of bugs and glitches that might be causing it to malfunction. So, before moving on to other troubleshooting methods that could lead to losing settings, make sure your Chrome browser is up-to-date.

Here are the steps to do so:

  1. First, open the Chrome browser on your device.
  2. Then, click on the vertical three-dot icon at the top-right corner of the page.
  3. From the options, go to Help.
  4. Select About Google Chrome.
About Google Chrome
  1. The page will display information about the Google Chrome installation. If an update is available, it will download automatically.

2. Reinstall Chrome

Completely uninstalling and reinstalling the Chrome application will give the browser a fresh start. In addition, it will reset all the settings to default, eliminating any factors that may be causing Chrome to become unresponsive.

Note: Make sure to backup your Chrome’s user data before proceeding.

To reinstall Chrome, follow the steps below:

  1. Go to the Search icon from the taskbar and search for Control Panel.
  2. Open the application and click on Uninstall a program under Programs.
  3. Locate and select Google Chrome.
  4. Click on Uninstall.
Uninstall Google Chrome
  1. Once complete, restart your computer.
  2. Download and install the latest version of Google Chrome from its official website.
  3. Restart your PC once more.

3. Run a “Clean up computer” scan

It’s possible that a program is interfering with the performance of Chrome. To check whether this is the case, you can use the built-in Chrome Scanner to scan for any suspicious programs and remove them.

Here’s how to do it:

  1. First, launch Google Chrome.
  2. From the three-dot menu icon in the upper-right corner of the screen, go to Settings.
  3. Scroll down and select Advanced.
  4. From there, go to the Reset and clean up section and click on Clean up computer.
Slow and Unresponsive Google Chrome
  1. Click on the Find option. This might take a moment.
  2. If any programs are found, click on the Remove option.

4. Close Unused Tabs

If you have too many tabs open on your browser, it can also cause Chrome to perform poorly. Therefore, closing all the unnecessary tabs will help free up some memory and boost Chrome’s performance. You can view the memory usage of each tab by accessing Chrome’s built-in Task Manager and close all the unused tabs.

Follow the instructions below to do so:

  1. Open the Chrome Browser and press the Shift + Esc keys to launch Chrome’s Task Manager.
  2. Click on the CPU tab to see which processes are taking up the most memory.
  3. To close a process, simply click on it, then select End process.
Chrome Task Manager
  1. Repeat the steps to close all unused tabs and free up memory.

5. Disable Unnecessary Extensions

Another method to fix Chrome malfunctioning is by disabling unnecessary extensions. Although extensions add various features to your browser, some might be incompatible with the new Chrome version. To determine if extensions are the cause of the problem, disable them one by one.

Here’s how you can do it:

  1. Open Chrome and click on the three-dot menu icon in the upper-right corner.
  2. Select Extensions.
Chrome Extensions
  1. This will take you to a page showing all the installed extensions. To disable an extension, switch off its toggle.

6. Regularly Clear Browser Cache & Cookies

Stored cache and cookies can become corrupt, which can lead to improper functioning of Chrome. Therefore, it’s best to delete your browsing data regularly to avoid such issues.

Here are the steps to clear cache and cookies:

  1. Click on the three dots in the upper-right corner of the Chrome window.
  2. Select Settings from the dropdown menu.
  3. In the left pane, select Privacy and security.
  4. Then, go to Clear browsing data.
  5. Choose a time range and the types of data you want to delete.
  6. Finally, click on the Clear data button.

7. Keep Your Hardware Up-to-date

Sometimes, the conflict between a hardware component and an application can cause the program to slow down or become unresponsive. Keeping all your hardware components up-to-date can ensure they aren’t the main culprits for slowing down Chrome’s performance.

8. Report the Issue to Chrome Help

If all the methods mentioned above fail to give you the desired results, consider reporting your issue to Google Chrome Support. To submit a report to Chrome Help, follow these steps:

  1. Launch Chrome.
  2. From the top-right corner, click on the vertical three-dot icon and select Help.
  3. Select Report an issue.

  1. Provide the required details and additional information, then click on Send.

Slow and Unresponsive Google Chrome - FAQs
